Cruising the Lake District

It was a bright and sunny morning so our decision yesterday to put off our lake cruise was vindicated. After breakfast we went for a walk into Bowness. We had the option of either going up the lake to Ambleside or down the lake to Lakeside. We chose the latter and boarded the MV Teal with the hordes from several buses. Fortunately the Teal can carry over 500 so we hardly noticed that they were there.

It was a pleasant morning on Lake Windermere

We had a pleasant journey down the lake and, at Lakeside, we got off. There is not much to do at Lakeside and the train to Haverthwaite didn't excite me so we caught the next boat back. This time we traveled on one the smaller cruisers, Miss Lakeland II. On our return to Bowness, we went for a walk around for once when the shops were open before returning to our B&B.

In the afternoon, we went cruising in the car. The plan was to take the Hawkshead car ferry that departs from opposite our B&B. When we got down there we found that, although it had been operating in the morning, it was out of service. So instead of getting the ferry across, we went there the long way through Ambleside. After cruising around the area, we came back through Coniston to Ambleside where we had an amble around the shops. Later on we went out for dinner at The Angel Inn in Bowness.
