This morning we went back to York Minster for a guided tour. We could have had a tour yesterday but we kept missing the guides by a few minutes so we gave up. The tour was very good and well worth the time. It took up most of the morning so after it was finished, we had enough time to walk part of the City Walls and then go and pick up our hire car. This time we have a diesel Hyundai i30. It is not a bad little car but it is getting a bit old with nearly 26,000 miles on the clock. When they realised that we are likely to put a whole lot more on over the next 3 weeks, they decided that they wanted to give us a newer one so we will swap it over before we leave York tomorrow.

Once we were settled into the car, we headed out of York for Pickering - one end of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The railway operates mainly from Pickering to Grosmont with a couple of trips extending to Whitby. We got there rather late so we only had enough time to ride down to Grosmont and come back on the next train. It was a pleasant, sedate trip taking a little over an hour each way. Despite that, it is a very busy railway requiring at least three trains running at any time just to provide an hourly service each way. If we are ever in the area again we will have to go for another ride and this time allow ourselves more time.

We had a different train to take us back from Grosmont
While we were being taken around York Minster, we found out that Melbourne wasn't all that far away. So after we got back to Pickering, we headed off across country to Melbourne for dinner.

Great photos and love the puns in the headings.
