A Right Royal Visit

Today it had been arranged for Anita to catch up with her cousin Sherryl who lives in England. The plan was to meet at Windsor and visit Windsor Castle. Her cousins Linda and Jenny, who are also over from Australia, were to meet us at Paddington Station so we could all catch a train to Windsor to meet up with Sherryl. After a bit of a shaky start with missed trains and wrong stations, we eventually all met up in time to catch the Windsor Guards marching down Thames Street for the Changing of the Guards.

After the Guards had marched past, everyone rushed to queue to get into the Castle. The smarter ones among us, looking at everyone in the queue standing in the rain, decided it was time for morning tea. So the five of us adjourned to The Drury House, quaint 17th restaurant nearby. Some time later we emerged to find that the crowds had subsided and we only had a little queue to wait in - mostly due to an abysmally slow ticketing system. Of course, once we were inside we found the crowds again...

Windsor Castle

We wandered around the Castle, mostly taking in what we saw but also spending a lot of time just talking and reminiscing. I am sure we would have taken in much more about the Castle if we had all gone there separately but it wouldn't have been anywhere near as much fun. It was mid-afternoon by the time we decided that we had seen it all and that a late lunch was in order. We went back to The Drury House simply because it had been so nice when we went in for morning tea.

It was late afternoon when we left Sherryl to find her car and the rest of us to find a train back to Paddington. Anita and then took the Tube to Euston Square near where we are staying. The only real problem with the hotel we are in is that there is little in the way food around it. Being a bit tired, tonight we went downstairs to the hotel restaurant and were pleased to find that it is quite an acceptable place to eat.
