Cruising to Loch Coruisk

On our last trip to Skye, we found our way to Elgol. The views looking over to the Cuillins was breathtaking so when we discovered that we could take a boat trip over there, we decided that it was something that we had to do. We awoke to a day where the weather wasn't all that great but that didn't matter...we were booked on a boat so we were going. Off we went after breakfast...driving most of the way back down the island to Broadford and then across to Elgol where we boarded the Misty Isle.

We had a pleasant trip under leaded skies across Loch Scavaig to Loch na Cuilce...pausing to look at a seal colony on the way. We docked near the mouth of the Scavaig River and crossed the rocks to Loch Coruisk. We had chosen a half-day cruise which gave us four hours ashore...enough time to walk around the loch if we wanted to...however that meant we had to cross the river over the rocks. With all the rain in recent days, the river was running quite high and we decided not to go across. Instead, we walked most of the up the loch on the side we were on before retracing our steps. Even that was not as easy as it sounds...it was rough going and very wet underfoot.

Seal-watching...or is it seals human-watching?

Although it had been trying to rain for most of the day, fortunately it never really succeeded...until after we were on the boat and heading back to Elgol. Although the weather hadn't been the best, we still managed a great day out in one of the wilder parts of Skye.
