Today was our last planned day on Lewis and Harris. Although we had only been booked for Monday and Tuesday for our boat trip, there was a possibility that we would go today but even that was cancelled...a 3 metre swell does not make for a good day out...or a safe one.

The seals in Finsbay didn't mind the rain...our B&B is on the right over the loch |

With no particular plans in mind, we set off for the South Lochs region of Lewis to have a look around. More or less on the border between the two parts of the island, it was a lot more like Harris to look at...and drive through...than the flats moors of Lewis. After visiting the villages of Cromore, Marbhig, Grabhair, Leumrabhagh and Orinsay, we retraced our route back to Tarbert in Harris. From here we took the long way back to Finsbay by travelling down the west coast of Harris and stopping off for a walk along the white sands of Luskentyre Beach.

The weather had been a tease all day...sometimes raining, other times bright sun. It had been tempting to try and re-plan our next few days in an effort to get to the St Kilda Isles. It would have needed a lot of changes to B&B and ferry bookings...still with no guarantee that we would get there. In the end we decided that what wasn't meant to be just wasn't meant to be and to be content with the the time we had spent on the island.
