Today started off rather windy and wet...we were glad we had abandoned our original idea of going across to the Isle of Barra as foot passengers and getting around on the local bus. Instead we went exploring the rest of South Uist...starting with the Kildonan Museum...not far from Lochboisdale. After looking through the museum and warming up with a hot drink from the Tea Room, we started heading back north. Quite by chance we spotted three young Red Deer stags close to the main road.

A chance encounter with some Red Deer |
After a wildlife encounter, we hunted around until we found the An Carra standing stone. At over five metres tall you think it would be easy to find but it wasn't...there wasn't a single sign pointing it out. Just as we parked the car it started to rain so we thought we would wait it out...it was over half an hour later when the torrential rain finally stopped and we could get out of the car.

The An Carra stone is high on a hill and opposite, down on the beach, is another smaller stone...and we went to this one next. We then visited the sea lochs on the east side of the island at Lochskipport before heading back to our B&B. On the way we stopped off at the Our Lady of the Isles statue.
