Exploring Eriskay and the south of South Uist

Having gone north yesterday, today we were going south. The plan was to go all the way south and work our way back...so after a non-stop drive we were on Eriskay, a small island joined to South Uist by a causeway.

On the road heading south
There is not much to Eriskay other than the ferry terminal to the island of Barra a little further south...and one geocache. We decided that we should go and find it...even though it meant climbing up to the top of Ben Scrien, the highest point on Eriskay. It wasn't the most easy of walks...initially we couldn't find a track up but after a while we did...then it go wet and boggy...then it got steep...and then it got wet, boggy and steep all at the same time. Still, we made it to the top...and the views made the effort all worthwhile.

Ben Scrien...it is bigger than it looks from here

It was a bit windy up there
Once we made our way back down, we started working our way north. Our next stop was Cladh Hallan to visit the remains of a group of three roundhouses. After walking through the sand dunes to find them, we continued on to the beach for a pleasant walk in the sun. By the time we got back to the car, it was getting late so we headed back to our B&B.
