A Quick Trip to Melbourne

After yesterday's rain, today certainly started on a brighter note so after a relaxed start to the morning, Sue and George took us to Melbourne...that is Melbourne the market town in Derbyshire and not to be confused with Melbourne the village in Yorkshire which we visited on our previous trip to England.

The focal point for this particular Melbourne is Melbourne Hall, the home of Lord and Lady Ralph Kerr. Even though we were from Melbourne, it was not enough to get the Kerr's to open their house to visitors in July (it is open only on particular days in August) so we had to be satisfied with viewing the gardens only. Although showing a few signs of damage from yesterday's storm, the gardens were a very pleasant place to visit.

With the weather improving all the time, we left Melbourne for nearby Calke Abbey. Here we wandered around the rather extensive gardens...enjoying what was now glorious sunshine. Rather late in the day, we made our return to Marston Green for dinner.
