Jumping up North

Today it was time to say farewell to Sue and George...and farewell to England for we were off to Scotland. Having discovered part way through our holiday planning that Glasgow was hosting the Commonwealth Games, we took the unusual step of flying straight to Aberdeen. So first task for the morning was to return our hire car to where we picked it up in Birmingham...we had covered 1809.5 miles in 17 days. After dropping the car off, we caught a train from Birmingham New Street to Marston Green and then George took us and our luggage to the airport.

Although Birmingham International is a busy airport, we had arrived with plenty of time. We were flying with Flybe and check-in went very smoothly...once we had worked out that it was self-service baggage check-in. With that done, it was in through Security and then wait to board our turbo-prop plane for a 1.5 hour flight direct to Aberdeen. All in all, flying with Flybe was a good experience.

Once on the ground in Aberdeen, we collected our luggage and then our car for the next 4 weeks...this time it was a Skoda Estate...and then out into Aberdeen's evening peak traffic. It took ages but eventually we got through the traffic and made it to our B&B for the night...Aberdeen is the only place in our whole holiday where we are stopping for only one night. After settling in, we went out for dinner and then a drive around town.
