A Quiet Day in Blois

After yesterday's failure to have a "quiet day", today we tried a bit harder to get it right. This time we took a train to Blois, about 15 minutes further along the line from Amboise.

The big attraction near Blois is Chambord...probably the most extravagant chateau in France. It is a long way from the town so there is a shuttle bus...and in an excellent piece of poor timing, it returns to Blois one minute after the Tours train leaves! So instead of risking a two hour wait for the next train, we decided to pass up on a visit to Chambord (which gives us an excellent reason to return here one day) and visit the Chateau Royal de Blois situated in the heart of the old town.

After a short walk from the station we arrived at the chateau. Despite it being a public holiday, it wasn't very crowded and we spent a pleasant few hours wandering around.

After finishing our visit, we had a late lunch before returning to the station for a mid-afternoon train back to Tours...making it a "quiet day" relatively speaking.
